You can go to the beach in Florida almost every month of the year! And there are plenty of beaches to visit. I have tours of a few of them coming up this summer, but for now, I will start with one of my favorite local beaches. New Smyrna Beach is one of those underestimated beach towns. It’s located right next to Daytona Beach and is about 1 hour drive from Orlando. My experience has been that not too many Orlandoans visit it, meanwhile, it gets a ton of out-of-towners from everywhere in the US and Canada. Although it has to compete with all the other fantastic beaches in FL (hint, hint- future post), New Smyrna Beach still has its enchantments.
We love going there because it’s the beach closest to us and there is plenty to do for shopping & dining, besides the beach. Also very important, it doesn’t get crazy crowded. People are very nice and friendly, both locals and tourists. You have to bring an umbrella or tent as there are no palm trees anywhere on the beach. If you go through the main entrance, you can park right on the beach; however, I don’t like the stress of traffic on the beach with my 6 year old. My husband found a neat spot with beach access and off-beach parking right next to the bathrooms. Hey, that’s important with kids! I must remind you that parking is still limited and it’s not free. You want to make sure to get there very early or late afternoon.
I love eating at The Breakers Ocean Front Restaurant because it’s your classic beachside casual joint serving burgers and seafood. The Flagler Tavern is in town, and it’s an awesome seafood restaurant with beautiful décor and perfect for date night. Sit on the balcony and you won’t miss anything that’s happening around town. This picturesque town is perfect for an afternoon stroll to the candy & ice cream shop and your pictures for Instagram of course! I haven’t stayed there yet, however I’m including a couple of hotel recommendations with the best reviews, one of those happens to be a pink hotel! How cool is that!
