Happy National Doughnut Day! To celebrate it, I wanted to do a cheerful donut shop inspired shoot, but finding someone who shares my colorful aesthetic is not an easy task. In Central Florida, my number one choice was the fabulous, beautiful, colorful, smart fashionista and last name twin (LOL!) Gaby Torres, blogger and owner of “She Wears Color”. Gaby and I met at Voodoo Doughnut in Universal City Walk. We spent a nice afternoon getting to know each other and of course trying their donuts. This was one of the places I visited for my Orlando Doughnut Tour and you can find the whole guide here.
I’ve been following Gaby for probably two years now and I absolutely love her aesthetic, style and point of view. I loved spending time with her and learning about her interesting life! She is not only bilingual, but proficient in Spanish, English & Portuguese and can defend herself in French! Knowing that she works on a field that requires a great deal of compassion and that she is so close to her family, tells me she is all about helping and lifting those around her. She probably doesn’t know how much she inspires other bloggers and her followers with her colorful fashion and powerful poses. She definitely inspires me! She is truly a boss woman and I can’t wait to see what else life has in store for her.
Voodoo Doughnut is an amazing store featuring incredible art and so many trinkets on the walls and ceiling. The décor is spectacular, make sure to spend some time inside the store and take it all in. From what I understand the staircase came as a welcoming present from City Walk’s The Chocolate Emporium. It’s a chain native from Portland, Oregon and this is the first shop on the East Coast. You will find the zip code of the first Portland store as part of the decor. An Oregon duct tape artist, Mona Superhero is commissioned to do a mural for every one of their stores. She makes bright, colorful amazing duct tape art! Each store also features a “spirit channeler” who is supposed to be a local celebrity. I found who it was, but I won’t tell you. When you go, I want you to tell me if you found it! My absolutely favorite features are the donut wheel inside and the donut throne outside, which is unique to this location. You have to have your photo taken sitting on it! It’s just so much fun! My favorite doughnuts were the voodoo doll and the eight mile covered with M&M’s! I found their prices to be modest. The staff is very courteous. Be prepared to wait in line to get in, as it is very popular. On a Sunday around noon, the wait is only about 20 minutes.
Let me know what you think of this super trendy doughnut shop. Which was your favorite donut? Did you find who the “spirit channeler” is? Did you love or dislike the décor? To read about my Orlando Doughnut Tour click here, and give Gaby from She Wears Color some love.
As always, don’t forget to live the cake life, or in this case, the donut life!
