Balloon garlands or clusters look amazing! I call them DNA Strands! LOL! The great thing about them is that each one is so unique. It’s virtually impossible to recreate the same design, and with a combination of different colors and sizes they just look so artsy and festive! I had my sweet friend party planner extraordinaire Nancy Fabian from Nancy’s Creations make this one for me for the “Be my Valen-corn” Party. She also taught me how to do it so I can bring you this tutorial. As amazing and intricate as they look, they are super easy to make. Just make sure to have some time and patience.
To make this balloon garland you will need:
- Choose your color palette – mine was light pink, hot pink, teal, purple, red and gold
- About 75 12”balloons in 3 or 4 colors (Walmart)
- About 25 4 “ balloons in 1 or 2 colors (The Party Exchange)
- 7 or 8 heart shaped balloons (Hobby Lobby)
- Fishing line
- Cold glue gun (if needed)
Fill up your 12” balloons in different sizes. If you can get them in different sizes is better, but they are hard to find. Most stores have 12” balloons. My local party store had the 4” balloons. Tie balloons in pairs. Make clusters of four balloons by intertwining 2 sets of two balloons. Do clusters of small balloons separate from the larger balloons. Intertwine the fishing line around the balloon clusters and continue until you have the desired length. There is no organized way to do it, just keep going and you will have a super amazing strand of balloons. Because we wanted the shape of the heart balloons to be seen, we tied each heart individually throughout the garland. Add fishing line loops to the back of the area of the garland where you want to hang it. Use cold glue to accommodate a balloon here or there in place and get the desired look and voila!
You can add additional decorations, such as florals, greenery, tassels or ribbons. The possibilities are endless! I never liked arch balloons or columns too much. They felt so uptight and frankly a little boring, but balloons garlands give such a sense of whimsy and creativity. I’m so glad we have them now!!!! Send me your comments below, especially if you make one of these. Let’s live the cake life!
